Kromatografiamenetelmillä mahdollistetaan näyteseosten kemiallisten yhdisteiden eristäminen toisistaan jatkotutkimuksia varten. Kromatografia voidaan jakaa useaan eri metelmään. HPLC kromatografia on yleisin kromatografian muoto ja sitä käytetään yleisesti tutkimuksessa ja kliinisissä sovelluksissa. Myös ohutlevykromatografia (TLC), pylväskromatografia ja kaasukromatografia (GLC) ovat laajasti käytettyjä kromatografiametelmiä.
